Chatting Climate with the Next Generation in Durban
Today Planet Change is sharing a few snapshots from our photo album of COP 17 in Durban, South Africa.
During the marathon two weeks of meetings during the COP 17 United Nations climate change conference in November-December 2011, members of The Nature Conservancy’s delegation took a few moments to talk about their work and answer questions with local students who were attending the conference.
Above, children from the Eco-Schools Eco-Committee at Nottingham Road Combined School and the Mpophomeni Enviro-Club, talk policy with Duncan Marsh (center), Conservancy director of international climate policy, and Elizabeth Gray (left), Conservancy Global Climate Change Fellow who has worked in Tanzania.
At left, Ninni Ikkala, formerly of the International Union for the Conservation of Nature and now an independent consultant, shares her thoughts with the students. Both school groups are facilitated by the Midlands Meander Association Education Project, which works with schools in KwaZulu-Natal to foster environmental awareness among students and resilience to a changing world. These goals were relevant to many of the conference themes, as nations came together to hammer out an agreement for moving forward the global agenda on climate change.
Above, Greg Overton (center), Senior Policy Advisor for the Conservancy in Kenya, listens to the conversation.
